Planning ahead for Grade 9 & 10
- Think about why you might want to go to university.
- Talk to parents and teachers about your interests and goals.
- Assess your personal and academic strenghts.
- Talk to university students about their experiences.
- Look through a university guide book or calendar to see what they contain.
- Attend a presentation by a university representative at your school
- Visit a university campus, just to look around.
- Plan some extracurricular, volunteer, and work experiences for the next few years. These activities will help you think about what you want from university studies and having them on your resume will give you an edge in getting accepted to highly selective schools. These experiences can also give you valuable insights for future career choices.
Also, if you are interested in American schools:
- Remember that American colleges and universities look at your grades starting from Grade 9 when they consider you for admiission (Don't wait until Grade 11 to start working harder.)
- You can take the preliminary scholastic Assessment Test (PSAT) in Grade 10, and you may want to do this as practice for the SAT
- Consider taking the Scholastic Assessment Test II( SAT II) achievement tests in subjects you plan to discontinue. eg, French........
